Toryu-nada

It is a wallpaper photograph of Toryu-nada in Hyogo Kato (old Takino-cho, Kato-gun).

The huge rocks and strangely shaped rocks in Kakogawa which flows through Kato (old Takino-cho) are just going to gather, and Toryu-nada is known also as the hardest part in Kakogawa. From Edo period before, Kakogawa is the nature of the locality in which the shipping service using north Harima, east Harima, Takasago, and the waterway to which an end connects Osaka is very prosperous, and it is said to be 1594 years when Mr. Age-of-Civil-Wars Toyotomi was proud of prosperity that the Kakogawa shipping service started first. It was that having invented with whether there is any way those who is called Ikoma Genba of those days which had governed the Toyotomi territory in east Harima carry Land tax rice towards Osaka which has Mr. Toyotomi's castle where a feudal lord usually resides more efficiently than an overland route at first for conveyance of Land tax rice carries Kakogawa with the flat boat where the bottom of a ship is shallow. The big undertaking of fixing so that a flat boat can operate around the river bottom in Kakogawa simultaneously is also undertaken. In this way, although it was the Kakogawa shipping service which started, only the portion of Toryu-nada still serves as a difficult part which cannot go back and forth by ship those days, and goods were mainly carried towards the Kakogawa lower stream from downstream Takino. It enters at the Edo period, and since Terumasa Ikeda who became the Himeji Castle daimyo with a castle 1600 started maintenance of Kakogawa north of Toryu-nada and he completed it shortly, the waterway from Hikami (present Tanba) to Takasago will be completed. Since digging of Toryu-nada was not performed yet in a place at this time but the portion of Toryu-nada was obstructed by the waterfall where the width of the huge rock which spreads to the limit of river width, or 3m of falls is wide,Conveyance of the goods from the Kakogawa upper stream divided goods finely by the work once called waterfall dropping here, the waterfall was dropped and the work which time and effort requires very much of reconstructing again in the lower stream, or unloading only here on land and reloading a ship with it again from the lower stream of Toryu-nada was needed. That construction of base rock drilling of this Toryu-nada is performed had to wait through the time till Meiji Era which became the Meiji new government further. Base rock excavating work will be requested to new government in 1872 (Meiji 5), and base rock excavating work 180m in length, 8m in width, and 4m in depth called the present canal waterway in January, 1873 (Meiji 6) still more will be performed. Those who is called the mousse of the French engineer who had invited to the Ikuno silver mine those days are made a leader,The construction by the construction method of exploding a base rock using a dynamite was completed in an end and December, 1873 (Meiji 6) in about one year, and the conveyance of it became possible [ without carrying and changing a cargo here like the present at last ] by ship. Although it is Toryu-nada with such history, the leading role of goods conveyance takes and changes to a railroad by opening of traffic of Kakogawa Line in Fukuchiyama Line and 1913 (Taisho 2) in 1899 (Meiji 32), and the mountain stream where it is violent having left the image of those days now is flowing. Moreover, after a canal waterway is completed, the name is driven to the present also as a place where ascension of a sweetfish is seen. Here Toryu-nada is very famous for the fishery of a sweetfish. The fishing method of capturing it alive with the basket which led to the artificial waterfall using the character in which the sweetfish called Kakei-dori ascends, and was devised to the basin of a waterfall is also prosperous, and it is known also for the fishery of a sweetfish being that a ban is removed earliest in the whole country on May 1 every year. Moreover, the sweetfish festival Flower Festival is called on May 3, and a fireworks display is also held at this place night. It seems that the name was attached since it seemed that the completely huge dragon was stirring and fighting to the rapid stream in Kakogawa which flows through strangely shaped rocks composed in the 7 word Chinese quatrain of Yanagawa Seigan which the origin of the name of Toryu-nada traveled in the whole country by the poet of the end of Edo Period, and spelled Chinese poetry so that 1 large white cloth might hang down. It seems that moreover, it is supposed that the rock which the volcanic ashes which lay by the volcanic activity about 70 million years before mainly being called the Arima layer group Kamogawa layer became hard, and was made is exposed of these oddly shaped rock outcroppings.
