It is a Deva gate (main gate) at the entrance of Hasedera. 399 steps of stone steps of the point and an ascent passage begin from here. It seems that it is burned down several times and the present Deva gate is considered as the reconstruction in 1885 (Meiji 18) although the first erection is made into the middle of the Heian period. The Deva king image (two-Deva-kings image) is located in a line with both the sides by the pair. Moreover, it is said let the character of the frame in which a temple name is shown be the 107th generation Emperor's Emperor Go-yozei (1586 - 1611) autograph. |
